Full Description
The Oregon Flora Project, Oregon State University, and BRIT Press collaborated to publish the Flora of Oregon—the first comprehensive flora of Oregon in over fifty years, and the first illustrated floristic work devoted exclusively to the state.
Flora of Oregon is a three-volume reference that serves as the definitive account of Oregon’s vascular plants. Volume 1 presents treatments of the pteridophytes, gymnosperms, and monocots—1,054 taxa in total, representing 23% of Oregon’s native and naturalized vascular flora. Each taxon treatment includes dichotomous keys, family and genus synopses, full descriptions, illustrations, and dot maps depicting vouchered occurrences and highlighted ecoregions. The volume includes 521 pen-and-ink illustrations, 86 of them new works by artist John Myers.
Color photographs accompany chapters on Oregon’s ecology and botanical exploration sites. The book also features biographical sketches of notable Oregon botanists and appendices focused on plant taxa of special conservation interest.
A valuable reference for land managers, policy-makers, naturalists, wildflower enthusiasts, historians, teachers, and students, the Flora of Oregon is an essential resource for anyone who appreciates the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Pacific Northwest.
Flora of Oregon, Volume 1 was nominated for the 2016 Annual Literature Award by the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries (CBHL).
