Aster & Brachyactis (Asteraceae) in Oklahoma documents twenty-four species of Aster and one of Brachyactis occurring in the state. Initiated in 1985 as part of the planned Flora of Oklahoma, Jones’s study provides analytical keys to both genera and detailed descriptions of each taxon arranged alphabetically by scientific name with colloquial names. Twenty-four species of Aster and one species of Brachyactis occur in Oklahoma. Jones’ study of Oklahoma asters was initiated in 1985 when she was invited to contribute the treatment of the genus to the planned Flora of Oklahoma.
An analytical key is provided for both Aster and Brachyactis. Descriptions of each taxon are presented in alphabetical order by scientific name; each scientific name is followed by colloquial names. For each species, Jones provides chromosome number, synonyms, phenology, ecology, and general geographical distribution along with a county dot map for each species.
